Atlas Mountains Day Trip from Marrakech

An hour from Marrakech the plain ends and the High Atlas begins. This private day trip takes you into the Imlil valley at the foot of Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4,167 metres, where walnut trees line the river and Berber villages sit stacked on the terraces above. The road climbs through Asni and its Saturday market, then up to Imlil at 1,740 metres. From there you walk at whatever pace suits you, on paths between the villages and irrigation channels, with a local mountain guide who lives in the valley. Routes can be short and level or a steeper climb to a viewpoint over the summits. Lunch is a tagine on a terrace looking across to the mountains. Because the trip is private, the walking distance, the pace and the timings are all yours to set.
