Private day trip from Marrakech to the Ourika Valley
About this experience
The Ourika valley is the closest mountain escape to Marrakech, about 45 minutes south, where the river runs down from the High Atlas between terraced fields and red rock walls. In spring the valley is green and the water is high; in summer it is several degrees cooler than the city. The road follows the river past roadside cafes with tables set in the shallows, through Berber villages, to Setti Fatma at the head of the valley. From there a rocky path climbs to a series of seven waterfalls, and reaching the first one takes about 40 minutes of scrambling. You can go as far as you like, or stop at the first cascade and turn back. Along the way there is usually a stop at a Berber house to see how families live in the valley, and at an argan and herb cooperative. Being private, the pace is entirely yours.
